2026 is a big year for us. It’s this website’s 20th anniversary, and we’re stoked you’re part of it. Founded in 2006, this website has seen various waves of content, but one thing has remained the same: our love for small makers. So it’s fitting we team up with one of our favorites to kick off our 20th!

This month, we’ve teamed up with Paul Component Engineering to give away a Paul Klamper brake kit. Included in this giveaway is a pair of Paul Klampers in whatever pull and finish (that’s currently in stock) you want, with matching levers.

To be entered to win, all you’ve got to do is be a Radavist Member with an active subscription.

The winter months are hard for bike media. We’re still cranking out content every day, but our advertising revenue is usually half of what it is in the spring through fall months. Help us out by becoming a Radavist Member for a little as $5 a month. Every cent of your contributions keeps our staff paid and this website running smoothly.

Paul and His 1979 Lawwill Knight Pro Cruiser

1977 saw the introduction of one of the most iconic models in the history of the humble mountain bike, the Lawwill Knight Pro Cruiser. Designed by flat track superstar Mert Lawwill and built by Terry Knight in his Hayward, California workshop, the Pro Cruiser is heralded as the first production mountain bike. The first no-serial prototypes were made in 1977, and only 600 serialized production frames were produced in batches of 50 between 1978 and 1984.

Paul Price from Paul Component Engineering has had his Pro Cruiser for several decades. It hung in the rafters in his Chico, California, shop before it was restored in 2023 by Ken Baker. What makes this restoration so special is that Mert Lawwill himself added the finishing touches to Paul’s bike, literally placing the decals on by hand.

Let’s froth over this no-expense – including time – spared restoration. But first, a bit of background is needed…

Paul Component Bike Camping Froggies Merch

If you haven’t seen Bryan Buswell’s artwork…yes, you have! He’s made some fantastic posters for Lost and Found Gravel Festival, and he made that epic MARS poster for Ultradynamico featuring the Freman riding a MTB away from a Shai Hulud… and a bunch of other killer art you may or may not have realized was his.

He came up with a super cute and relatable froggies bike camping scene for Paul Component Engineering, so they created these high-quality, 100% cotton American made T-shirts and Nalgene bottles to bring the party with you wherever you go.

Paul Component Engineering BEP Handlebar Plugs

It’s just a handlebar plug, right? Sure, but when the machinist bike nerds at PAUL start designing, prototyping, (obsessing), and testing a project, even a simple bar plug can end up at NASA-level standards of tolerance, function, and reliability. Introducing the BEP Handlebar Plugs. They install in drop bars or MTB bars with a 5 mm Allen key and lock into position, never rattling loose…
