Designing the Stinner Romero Enduro Bike

The Stinner Frameworks Romero enduro full suspension is taking shape. In Episode 1 of the Romero Build Series, Aaron Stinner and the team dive into the design evolution of the rear end of their new full-suspension mountain bike we first previewed at the 2025 Made Bike Show.

To improve performance and affordability, the team redesigned the rear triangle from a machined billet structure to a tubular welded aluminum design, increasing stiffness while keeping manufacturing in-house in the USA. The new design also simplifies maintenance with minimal hardware, extended race bearings, and improved weather sealing.

The Romero is shaping up to be a 29er enduro bike with 160mm rear travel and 170mm front travel, built to handle aggressive terrain while remaining practical.

Stay tuned for more!

Provenance: Quirk Cycles

Provenence is a short film by Michael Drummond profiling Quirk Cycles and its founder, Rob Quirk – an independent bicycle brand based in Hackney, London.

Built on years of framebuilding experience and driven by a commitment to performance, durability, and purposeful design, Quirk Cycles is entering a new chapter. Moving beyond one-off commissions towards a refined range of production bicycles, the brand is focused on creating performance bicycles with clarity, consistency, and lasting value.

The film captures this pivotal moment of transition, offering a rare look inside the workshop and the thinking, craft, and intent that underpin every Quirk frame – and the vision shaping the future of the brand.

The film release marks the beginning of the run-up to Quirk Cycles’ first order window of 2026.

Steel vs. Ti? Tubing Talk with Stinner

In this video, Aaron Stinner breaks down one of the most common questions frame builders get: what tubing is right for you? From steel vs. titanium to select, podium, and custom bike models, Aaron explains how tubing choice, wall thickness, diameter, and material sourcing influence ride quality, comfort, durability, and performance.

Learn why Stinner Frameworks primarily uses Columbus Zona steel, when Spirit and Life tubing come into play for custom builds, and how grade 9 (3/2.5) titanium is selected and tuned for the Podium series. Aaron also explains the real-world differences between straight-gauge and butted tubing, how frame design changes for riders of different sizes, and why metal bikes deliver a smoother, more lively ride than carbon.

Whether you’re considering a steel gravel bike, a titanium road bike, or a fully custom frame, this video offers an honest, experience-driven look at how modern metal bikes are designed and built in the USA.

If you’ve ever wondered how tubing affects ride feel—or which Stinner bike is right for you—this is the place to start.

Sturdy Cycles Moves to CNC from 3D Printing

Tom from the UK’s Sturdy Cycles has been one of the catalysts for framebuilders to adopt 3D printing technologies. He helped Prova Cycles develop its titanium fork and produced some of the nicest bikes at the previous years’ Bespoked UK showcases. And of course, you remember Petor’s Sturdy, right? Last year, Tom let John in on a little secret at Bespoked: that he was working on moving to Sturdy Cycles to CNC milling.

Computer numeric control allows Tom to work entirely in-house on his components and frame parts. The fruits of his labor are beginning to be presented in the Sturdy Cycles webshop with his stunning CNC-milled crankarms ($1,096, ~560g) and seatpost ($411, ~215g) hitting the shelves. While they fetch a pretty penny, the cranks are available in 150 through 180 mm lengths and are TIG-welded in-house.

All we can say is we’re stoked to see what Sturdy brings to London for Bespoked this spring. Check out more at Sturdy Cycles.

Stinner Frameworks New Shop

In this behind-the-scenes update, Aaron Stinner from Stinner Frameworks walks you through the next chapter of Stinner HQ, showcasing how a handmade, American-made bicycle company scales up without sacrificing production. See how the Stinner team relocated heavy fabrication equipment, welding stations, and assembly operations with virtually zero downtime. Learn how the move was planned, how machines were rigged and installed in-house, and why bringing finishing and paint fully in-house is one of the biggest challenges — and biggest upgrades — of the new space.

1979 Charlie Cunningham CCPROTO: Two-Wheeled Prometheus

Reportage

1979 Charlie Cunningham CCPROTO: Two-Wheeled Prometheus

The CCPROTO represents the genesis of a Promethean figure within the world of bicycle design and fabrication.  Back in the 1970s, Charlie Cunningham took a break from modifying ultralight-weight weenie road bike projects and created the CCPROTO, the most innovative bicycle of the era. Many of his creations were 40 years ahead of the mainstream bike industry. Framebuilders are often heralded as being the true innovators of the mainstream bike industry, and today we will take a close look at one such innovator whose work continues to be ahead of the curve.

Tasshi Dennis from Vintage Mountain Bike Workshop and John Watson once again teamed up to deliver the crème de la crème of Cunningham documentation. Read on for a mind-melting report on the most innovative framebuilder to ever live…
