Tokowaka means “forever young” in Japanese. Follow along as Takashi Minamiura takes us to a region in Japan where the passion for mountain biking is rapidly growing. As more and more riders are venturing beyond bike parks, discovering trails deep in the mountains. Yet, these mountains and ancient paths have been cared for by local communities since as far back as the Heian period. Respect for the people and the nature that have sustained this land is essential.
Now, a new culture — mountain biking — is beginning to meet and intertwine with the local community. Connections are being made, and a new dialogue is taking shape.
As this area moves swiftly toward commercialization, I can’t help but feel that conflicts may inevitably arise in the near future. Featuring Takashi Minamiura, Isamu Hori, and Zenta Watanabe.

Bespoked, Europe’s leading handmade bicycle show, is going global. In September 2026, Bespoked will launch in Osaka, Japan – a city long recognised as a centre of bicycle and component manufacture, metal fabrication, and craft.
Osaka sits at the heart of Japan’s bicycle manufacturing heritage. From the precision of NJS-certified Keirin builders, whose frames carried world champions, to contemporary builders, the region has a reputation for uncompromising quality and innovation. Today, that tradition continues through apprenticeships and the next generation of builders carrying the craft forward.
Bespoked Osaka will celebrate Japan’s vibrant handmade scene, while also welcoming Western and international builders to build a new frame building hub in Asia. This cultural exchange is central to the show – giving Japanese makers a platform to reach new audiences, while offering international exhibitors the chance to learn from Japan’s unique approach to craftsmanship, design, and cycling culture.
Exhibitors can register their interest now to receive updates on Bespoked Osaka 2026, along with discounted early-bird stand rates.
Inspired by designs dating back to the 1930s and 1940s, the new SimWorks Short Fenders combine Honjo construction with a vintage sensibility. Used by road and ‘cross racers looking to protect their braking performance as well as cycling hunters who feared mud-clogged fenders, this truncated design is designed to keep mud away from your rim brake calipers and headset. They’re also ideal for bikes that might have to be transported on a bike rack on a car or public transit.
Available in silver or black and a variety of different widths and finishes, and in stock now at SimWorks.

The world of shifting and braking just got a whole lot more interesting thanks to the all-new friction Growtac Equal Control Levers. While Grotac could have made some sort of universal indexed shifting levers, the brand wanted to give riders complete control with a smooth, friction-based system. These made in Japan shifters allow for indexed shifting and powerful braking control all in one.
You can choose from a left or right shifter for those running a front or rear derailleur, or opt for a left or right brake-only lever if you’re running a 1x drivetrain or just need a clean braking solution. Mix and match to create the perfect setup for your bike.
